Toast Data Storytelling

I led the design for Toast’s inaugural Restaurant Trends Report, which became a quarterly release that turns proprietary data from its network of restaurants into high-impact visual storytelling. As the complexity of our insights grew, I developed a cohesive data visualization language — defining new color families, typography, and component styles that improved accessibility, clarity, and brand cohesion.

To scale this work, I built a system of branded data templates in Infogram and handed it off to the PR and comms teams, enabling them to create interactive data visualizations across the Toast website. The result elevated Toast’s position as a trusted data authority, earning coverage from CNN, CNBC, PBS NewsHour, and The Wall Street Journal.

Key Publications

The success of the quarterly Restaurant Trends Report revealed an appetite for ongoing, data-backed industry insight. We used that momentum to scale Toast’s data storytelling into Data by Toast, an editorial hub where brand journalists continuously publish learnings and trends powered by Toast’s proprietary data.

Data Visualization

Each visualization distills complex industry data into a clear, standalone graphic that’s easy to understand in seconds. Built for editorial contexts, the visuals cover timely, seasonal topics — from inflation to tipping to holiday trends — without requiring interactive exploration or dense keys to make their point.
