Hardware Unboxing Experience

I led the design of Toast’s global hardware packaging system — 36 boxes and counting — establishing a cohesive unboxing experience across our full hardware lineup, including the Flex 3 launch (8,000+ devices shipped at GA). I defined the visual system to balance sustainability, manufacturability, and brand expression in close collaboration with hardware, industrial design, and R&D teams, ensuring the packaging scaled across U.S. and international markets.

Each box features clean line illustrations of the device, Toast’s signature mosaic tile pattern, and a bright orange seal that functions as both a brand cue and a tamper-evident closure. The system is designed to feel simple, tactile, and distinctly Toast while supporting clarity at setup. Paired with intuitive installation graphics and improved cable management documentation, the packaging reinforces the system’s modularity and ease-of-use from the moment customers begin unboxing.
